Metal Curb Replacement in NYC When Repair Won't Hold
Some steel curbs are past saving. When the ground under a curb washes out, the whole run drops below the street line; when a truck shoves it out of alignment, the facing and concrete move together; and when the steel has rusted through or lost its anchoring along most of its length, resetting it only buys a winter or two. In those cases, the curb needs to come out. Our steel curb replacement work removes the failed section, rebuilds the base, sets new steel facing (or reuses the old facing where it’s still straight and sound), and ties the new curb into the existing run so it sits flush on both ends.
Removal & Base Rebuild
Failed curb broken out and hauled away, and the soil and base underneath rebuilt so the new curb doesn't sink the same way.
New or Reused Steel Facing
Straight, sound facing reused where the City's specifications allow it, and new steel installed where it isn't.
Tied Into the Existing Run
New sections set to match the height and line of the curb on either side, with flush joints at both ends.
Signs Your Steel Curb Needs Replacement
These problems go deeper than the facing, and on NYC streets they’re the ones where replacement is the only fix that lasts.
Sunken & Settled Curbs
Curbs that have dropped below their original height because the base underneath has washed out.
Tilted & Shifted Curbs
Curbs pushed toward the street or out of line by trucks, with the steel and concrete moving together.
Facing Failed Along the Run
Steel rusted through or pulled loose along most of its length, where section-by-section repair no longer makes sense.
Concrete Curbs Upgraded to Steel
Plain concrete curbs replaced with steel-faced curbs where zoning requires it or traffic keeps destroying them.
What NYC Customers Say About Our Metal Curb Replacements
Our old metal curb had become badly rusted and damaged, so repair was no longer practical. They removed the deteriorated section and installed a clean new replacement.
Why Choose Us for Metal Curb Replacement in NYC
A new steel curb set on a failed base will sink the same way the old one did. Most of what decides whether a replacement lasts happens underground, in the excavation and base work nobody sees once the job is done.
We replace steel-faced curbs across NYC as core work, and we only recommend replacement when repair genuinely won’t hold. When the old facing can be reused, we tell you, because that saves you money.
Fixed at the Source
We find out why the curb failed and fix that, not just the steel on top.
Honest About Reuse
Sound steel facing reused where it qualifies, instead of billing you for new steel.
Seamless Tie-Ins
New sections flush with the existing curb at both ends, with no step for tires or feet.
Complete Restoration
Sidewalk and roadway edges along the curb restored before we leave.
Metal Curb Replacement Across NYC and Westchester
We provide metal curb replacement throughout four NYC boroughs and Westchester County, from single failed sections to full curb runs.
Across New York City, the curbs that need replacing most are on older blocks and heavy traffic routes, where decades of trucks and winters have worn through the steel and the ground beneath it.
Metal Curb Replacement FAQs
Can the old steel facing be reused?
Sometimes. NYC’s specifications allow existing steel facing to be reused when it’s straight, structurally sound, and not rusted through. Bent, corroded, or damaged facing has to be replaced with new steel. We check the facing during the inspection and quote whichever option applies.
Should I upgrade my concrete curb to steel-faced?
If your property is in a zoning district that requires steel facing, or the curb is at a corner, the upgrade isn’t optional when the curb is rebuilt. Even where plain concrete is allowed, steel facing is worth it if trucks, buses, or plows keep damaging the curb. Our steel-faced curb guide explains where it’s required.
How much does metal curb replacement cost in NYC?
It depends on the length of curb, whether the steel facing can be reused or has to be new, removal and disposal, how much base work is needed, restoring the sidewalk and roadway edges, and permits. We measure on site and give you an itemized quote.
Can you replace just one section of a steel curb?
Yes. In most cases we replace only the failed sections and tie them into the existing curb, so the new steel sits flush with the old at both ends and you don’t pay to replace curb that’s still in good shape.
How long does a metal curb replacement take?
Removal, base work, setting the steel, and pouring usually take a few days on site, depending on the length of the run. The new curb then needs time to cure before it takes traffic.
